Bones, Joints and Muscle Conditions – (Sthir)

Duration: 14-28 days

In Ayurveda, there are seven types of tissues known as ‘Dhatus’ in the body. The dhatus are the structures or building blocks that make up the body which is why any imbalance in the body will affect these structures and could lead to disease.

Muscle tissue – Mansa dhatu is the third dhatu and Bone tissue – Asthi dhatu is the fifth dhatu among the seven which give shape and structure to the body apart from the capability to hold and protect the organs within. The raw material for building healthy joints and bones is nutrient plasma [Rasa Dhatu – first of the seven Dhatus].

Plasma flows throughout the body, like the sap in a tree, delivering vital nutrients to cells. The body uses these nutrients to build tissues, including joint tissue. The plasma health is directly proportional to good digestion.

Healthy, flexible joints and muscles rely on strong digestion and metabolism. Poor eating habits, weak digestion and stress can allow toxins [Ama] to accumulate, and build up in the joints and muscles. This inhibits joint and muscle function, mobility, and comfort.

Deep cleansing of the joints and muscle tissues helps relieve immediate symptoms of arthritis and other bone and muscle conditions. The key to preventing a future build-up of impurities is to create a healthier metabolic system by eliminating the harmful toxins from the body. This is done by means of Panchakarma or detoxification.

According to Ayurveda, the term arthritis is used to define joint pain, caused by aggravation of Vata Dosha i.e, Air element [Osteo Arthiritis] and the excessive collection of Ama (toxic by-product of improper digestion) in the body of an individual [Rheumatoid Arthiritis]. The treatment of Arthritis centers on the digestion of ama and reduction of vata, simultaneously. This is done by means of Ayurveda Panchakarma therapies and Iyengar medical yoga along with diet guidelines that are prescribed by Ayurveda.
